Dress Code

Note, these EXACT leotards need to be worn during any of our performances.

Dancers that are female identifying wear the following:

Intro Ballet 1 and 2:
- MIRELLA, PINK Child Cap Sleeve Leotard. Style # M515C - NO SKIRTS ATTACHED
- footed Capezio tights, ballet pink or skin-tone tights, with NO seem in the back, style #1916X (toddler)
- ballet pink or skin-tone canvas shoe with split sole; preferably Bloch "Performa"
- Tights and shoes must match (pink and pink or skin tone and skin tone)
- Optional to wear a tutu or pink ballet skirt to class as long as it is not distracting to that dancer
- No jewelry
- Hair in a neat bun

Level 1 / 1.5
- BLOCH LIGHT/PASTEL BLUE Girls Essential Short Sleeve Leotard. Style # CL 5602 - NO SKIRTS ATTACHED
- Convertible Capezio tights, ballet pink or skin-tone, with NO seam in the back, style #1916X (toddler) or 1916C (child)

Dancers that are male identifying may wear the following for ballet:

All Student Levels:

- Any solid, white shirt that's form fitting.

- Lightweight white socks and Black canvas split-sole ballet shoes, preferably Bloch "Performa"

Teen/ Adult Ballet:

Comfortable Clothing you can move in, preferably form-fitting
Any canvas ballet shoe with split sole; preferably Black Bloch "Performa"

Contemporary:

Loose-fitting clothing you can move in. No large logos, images or characters (aside from DES gear). Leotard preferred. No crop tops for Kids Contemporary. Long socks DO NOT WASH WITH FABRIC SOFTENER (this makes our expensive dance floors irreversibly slick).

HAIR

Hair in a bun, french twist or double buns. If short hair, please make sure it is out of

your face and off the neck. Men included.

The perfect ballet bun should look like this, especially for our performances.

Try to make it as flat as possible. No donuts permitted.

Use BLOCH Hairpins (not bobby pins) that match the color of your or your dancer's hair.

WHERE TO BUY UNIFORM:

We strongly suggest buying local, at Bourre Boutique in San Rafael

If this is not an option for you, you can purchase online. Go to our own Discount Dance Page, click on your student's level, check the "class notes" in the top right corner and all the required items are there for you. You must select the proper color.

Notes about ballet shoes

Especially from the Levels 1 and up, we strongly suggest getting shoes from brands like Bloch, Capezio, Sansha or any kind from a professional ballet store or website.

Target, Payless and similar stores are not specialized in ballet shoes and will work against getting the right ballet technique.

Ballet shoes from these stores are not manufactured correctly to allow for the proper articulation of the feet in ballet class.

Also please avoid any prints on shoes. The shoes should be plain, solid color, light pink. Draw strings must be tied and tucked in. Shoes should be labeled with your dancer's name before the first class of the year.

Our preferred shoe is a canvas shoe with split sole; Bloch "Performa"

Black for the boys, ballet pink or skin-tone for the girls.

Notes about our floors

In order to keep our expensive dance floors from becoming irreversibly slick, we have a strict policy:

NO BODY LOTIONS/ OILS can be worn to class

NO FABRIC SOFTENER with socks or clothes

NO STREET SHOES in the studio spaces

NO FOOD in the studio spaces
